Want to support local LGBTQIA+/SSA youth and run a 5K marathon? Or perhaps you are not a runner, but you want to support the cause? On Saturday, September 16, Spectrum: Queer Student Alliance at UVU and Understanding Same-Gender Attraction (USGA) will be hosting the First Annual Provo Pride Rainbow Run at 8 AM at the Provo River Trail.
All proceeds from the Provo Pride Rainbow Run will go to these two local LGBTQIA+/SSA college organizations: Understanding Same-Gender Attraction (USGA), an unofficial group of Brigham Young University students, faculty and guests; and Spectrum: Queer Student Alliance at UVU, a student-led club of LGBTQIA+ students at Utah Valley University.
College is often a hard transition for LGBTQIA+/SSA youth and making sure that these organizations have the resources to support these students is very important. You can show your support by doing the following:
A. Registering under Runner Entry and then either walking or running the 5K course.
B. Registering under the term Spirit Runner. The designation of Spirit Runner is for those who want to participate and donate but are not able to run the actual race. To register someone as a Spirit Runner, submit the name of the person (this person can be someone who cannot run, someone who is deceased, or someone who is otherwise unable to attend the event). The name of the person you choose will be attached to a runner’s bib. These special runners will be running for their own and on behalf of the person whose name you submitted.
